Last Time Luncheon

15 April, 2007

Many parishioners past and present gathered after morning Masses for the
Last Time Luncheon to give thanks for the many wonderful memories
and opportunities for ministry provided by the old parish hall before it was
demolished to make way for the new parish centre.

Construction of this is still underway.

The Hall featured a display of photos and memorabilia of the
many happy and historic events held in the hall over the last 84 years.

A cake with the words "Thanks for the memories" was cut by
former warden Bill Peters and Bob Satchell. Both their fathers had been
churchwardens of St John's and grew up in the parish
when the hall was the original St John's.

Current churchwarden Roger Soltau read an ode to "The Old Church Hall"
composed for the occasion. There were two toasts, to the past and to the future.
We thank God for the way he has blessed St John's over the years and has
now made possible an exciting new era in the life of our parish.
