On Sunday 26 October 2008, as we celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the Dedication of St John's,
we rededicated ourselves in God's service and in mission.
Fr Robert Wheeler, the parish's longest-serving Rector, led the parish in this moving act.

An Act of Rededication as God's People

After the Homily the Priest addresses the people.

As we thank God for the blessings we have received as members of this parish, in good times and difficult times, we acknowledge his providential hand guiding us and leading us, and calling us to serve. With great trust in God, born of our experience of his love, we now thank him for this church, and rededicate ourselves in his service.

People of St John's, Christ is the true light who has come into the world so that we might have life. Through the Gospel and the life of the Church we share in his life. Are you committed to continue along this path of faith under the guidance of Christ?

.....We are.

Are you committed to worshipping God in the faith and fellowship of the Church, seeking and celebrating his grace in word and sacrament?

.....We are.

Are you committed to building one another up in holiness and supporting one another as members of the household of faith? Will you welcome those who come seeking a spiritual home, or needing the healing care of God's people?

.....We are.

Are you committed to serving Christ, offering your lives as a living sacrifice to be sent out empowered by the Holy Spirit to live and work to his praise and glory?

.....We are.

Almighty God, who has given you the will to do all these things, grant you the strength and power to perform them.

The Lord be with you.
.....And also with you.

Let us pray.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for calling us to be your servants. Help us gladly to respond to your call and to obey your will. Make us ready for every demand you make upon our lives, that we may serve you faithfully and show forth your love to the world; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Help us, O Lord, by your grace, to fulfil the purpose for which in your wisdom you created us and in your love you redeemed us; that all our days here upon earth may be of service to others and accomplish something of worth for your kingdom and your glory; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. .....Amen.
