Coronavirus Crisis: No Public Services at St John’s

Dear friends,

Following the Prime Minister’s Address to the Nation outlining the Government’s updated guidelines and restrictions on public gatherings, the Archbishop of Sydney has now advised that all public church gatherings in Anglican churches across this diocese should cease until further notice.

As a parish in the Catholic Tradition, the celebration of the Eucharist is the central focus of our identity as Christians and our relationship with our Lord Jesus ChristNot to worship together and to receive the Sacraments of the Church is counter to all we stand for. However, we realise that we are facing an unprecedented public health crisis and understand the Archbishop’s concern that all parishes act responsibly and with compassion for the whole community.

We must therefore comply with the Archbishop’s direction and regretfully have cancelled all public services until further notice.

From Sunday, 22 March, we will make available a video recording of the Sunday Mass celebrated at St John’s (without the public) for streaming on this website, as well as our parish Facebook page at

We hope you will use this and participate fully in the worship at home, making a Spiritual Communion.

We are putting in place processes and strategies that will ensure that our parish family are kept in touch with and cared for during this testing time. Please feel free to contact Father Steven, the office, or any of the clergy, wardens, or ministry team if you have any questions or concerns. We will be making sure in due course that sacramental ministry is available to our people in spite of being unable to meet in public worship.

Please pray for the Archbishop, our civic leaders and the parish.

With every blessing,

Father Steven Salmon SSC
